"Squeaky swings and tall grass ."

Sorry. I sort of found myself goofing about the last hour (though a chunk of it was business-related email, so not goofing, technically).

Yesterday, I rallied and found my way back into the book. After two days of dismal word counts, I did 1,667 yesterday, finished Chapter 2, and began Chapter 3 ("Elves on Harleys, or Urban Fantasy Cliché 15"). So, it at least seems Fay Grimmer is back on track.

Here in Providence, we are cloud haunted each night, and the Perseids are eluding us yet another year. In 2004, when Kathryn and I had not yet moved to Providence but were up visiting her parents, we lay out beneath the clear and starry sky and watched. Unfortunately, a full moon outshone everything else that night. This year, we have a waning crescent, but clouds. Right now, it's mostly sunny out there. Don't let it fool you.

When Chapter Three is finished, I'm taking a day or two off while a scrap of summer remains. This is one of those summers that has almost been my undoing. I have lost so much time.

Anyway, with nothing much else to say, and no time to say it, I leave you with kitten pr0n. Er...MS Word knows how to spell "pr0n"? Anyway, Young Master James Selwyn Nightshade is growing like a weed, and he and Hubero are becoming fast friends. We're trying to get photos before Selwyn is all growed up and shit. [TRIGGER WARNING] Cute kitten lurking behind cut!*:

Now I'm Feelin' Kittenfied,
Aunt Beast

* Why, yes. I am making light of "trigger warnings." They're bloody fucking absurd. Kill your fear, and grow a fucking backbone. Or spend your lives avoiding cute kittens.

Young Master James Selwyn Nightshade is growing like a weed

when he grows into that face and paws, he is going to be an impressive feline.

The Young Master has gorgeous eyes.

There were no Perseids to be had over here either, just an (admittedly nice) copper moon.

I like the subtitle to Chapter Three. Keep putting the boot into PR/UF!

Thing is...in that chapter title, I have to own up to making light of Urban Fantasy when it was still Urban Fantasy (classic fantasy tropes in contemporary urban settings, often well written), before the term was co-opted by the leprous taint of ParaRom. So, I feel a little guilt. But it's such an appropriate chapter title. And genuine UF did have a shit-ton of clichés, and that was one.

And, in truth, the photos do not do his eyes justice. They fail to show the violet, and the streaks of pink.

Let us hope that Young Master James Selwyn Nightshade never meets Phyllis Irene Radford's Mr. Chessie. Besides being near-clones of each other, I fear the universe might implode from the Kitteh Cuteness.

Not to speak of Kitteh World Domination.

Oh, that's inevitable.

there is too much artificial light where I live to see the Perseids. In fact I don't think I have ever seen them. :/

Even in Providence, there's too much light. We'd planned to drive down to Point Judith, or out to western Connecticut...but then the clouds rolled in, damn them.

Devastation on the chess board! Perhaps all future governmental wars should be waged, and henceforth resolved by cats who just don't care.

Too much cloud cover here, but last week, I think, I saw an amazing dark copper moon barely floating above the skyline. Selwyn is quite the looker.

Many years I'm up in northern Minnesota at Lake Itasca during the Perseids shower, but not this year unfortunately. The Twin Cities area is too light-polluted to get a really nice view of the shower.

Selwyn looks a lot like an abandoned cat that moved into the space under our back porch a few years ago. We took care of her until the local shelter we volunteer at could take her in. Beautiful cats - one of my favorite breeds.

Soon, we will all lose sight of even the brightest full moon. Then again, many places must have already done so.

Selwyn was, as it happens, rescued from a feral colony at the age of four weeks.

Ah, I see young Selwyn follows the same robust chess styling as my own feline compatriots, eschewing a subtle mid-game for a forceful attack followed by a long contemplation of the next move in a sunbeam.

Young Master James Selwyn Nightshade and Hubero are becoming fast friends
This is wonderful! you just never know how felines will interact with one another, especially a kitten and a mature, refined gentlemen such as Hubero.

I'm so glad you enjoyed the Young Lovecraft strips. They gave me a few chuckles.

Hell, YES! If I see something I don't like, I can either avert my eyes

Indeed.

or state in a reasoned and non-anonymous manner why I am distressed.

Personally, I'd opt for keeping it to myself.
