Me and World Horror Con 2013

While it's still new news, here's the scoop: I've accepted an invitation to be Author Guest of Honor at the 2013 World Horror Convention in New Orleans, June 13-16. This will be my first time in New Orleans since 1999, and my first WHC since 1999. I very much look forward to the opportunity to see docbrite, as we've not had face-to-face time since 2004(!). And dear Ramsey, whom I've not seen since the same '99 WHC (in Atlanta), where I interviewed him (somewhere online, I'm sure there are photos).

So, there you go.

Congratulations! I'm going to have to mark my calendar and see if I can dig up my copy of The Hungry Moon. And I'll have to pass this along to my friend in Baton Rouge.

Very cool. Even better than you and doc can touch base again.

I’d love to go. Maybe Bad Glass will get a Stoker nomination and I’ll be able to justify the cost. Fingers crossed.

Now this is one I may have to attend as a vendor. (I skipped on last year's World Horror in Austin because it ran the same weekend as Texas Frightmare Weekend. Well, that and the butthurt routine I received when I pointed it out. However, for New Orleans, I'd be more than willing to pay the additional fees for transporting plants across state lines just to talk to you and Spooky again.)

That's very cool, even if you don't write horror.

Yes! For a moment I missed that it was next year, but luckily their planning skills are at another level than mine. I've missed the last few but can factor this in, since I have been needing to go back to the city and have some friends to visit there, who started a printing studio. Something to look forward to - thanks!

That's great news for you, WHC and those of us that will likely attend. I look forward to it. It would be nice if Ramsey could attend, so you could see him again. He is a wonderful person.

Congratulations! However, from my perspective: d'oh! I SO want to go but unfortunately I am teaching for the first half of the summer and can't attend (the summer courses are accelerated so I have to teach 5 days a week). I hope you have a wonderful time and enjoy the city. I HIGHLY recommend "The Green Goddess" restaurant, which is run by Billy's husband; I had the BEST lunch there just last month when I was in the city and got to meet Billy and his partner. I am still upsetted that I didn't get to hear you read at KGB Bar; I hope to be able to attend an event where you are present and meet you sometime in the near future.

Best,
Jaime

PS: "Horror literature" is a slippery category at the best of times; I feel like it's often used in academia as a catch-all for anything that doesn't conveniently fit into a "canonical" genre. The aspects of "horror" literature that interest me the most are the concepts of engaging with the forbidden, transgressing the normative, and "speaking the unspeakable" - all of which I think you do superbly.

Oh, how excellent. I'll get to see you without the expense of travel! (I'll see you soon as it is, but I'll be over a thousand miles away from home.)
