Oh dear Monsieur Insomnia, fuck you.

I hate waking to important email, which is what happened this morning. The whole weekend has been email and stress and worse. But the good news is that everything seems to be working out for the better. It's not that I worry over nothing. It's that unless I worried so fiercely, everything would go to crap.

It's almost going to be warm today, but I'm trapped here inside the house. There must be work.

But! I have some very good news, even though I can't say what it is until Friday.

Yesterday, I took a day off. Pretty much. Aside from having to deal with email all day and night, and aside from being unable to stop obsessing over The Drowning Girl, I took the day off. It was cloudy and chilly, and all I did was ride along with Spooky while she did errands, but at least I wasn't stuck at this fucking desk. We went to PetCo for cat food, and I found a baby Nile monitor (Varanus niloticus) that I don't know how I got out if the store without buying. We took Les pacte des loup back to Acme Video on Brook Street, and rented three more movies: Das Boot (I haven't seen it in ages), Basquiat, and the third Ginger Snaps film. It was surely one of the oddest assortments the clerk had rung up all day. Then, East Side Market to get chili fixings. Then home again. And I packed some boxes for storage. The office is about to undergo a complete overhaul to make it more functional, and there's just not room for everything.

If you own so much shit, you have to rent a storage unit to hold some of your shit, you own too much shit. This is probably one of those distinctly American problems. Fucking absurd.

Oh, I also added a few words of text to The Drowning Girl, to which I can't seem to stop adding little bits. Truthfully, I need six more months with the ms.. I'm just not going to get it.

---

Last night, we watched Daniel Alfredson's Luftslottet som sprängdes (2009). It's a very different film from the other two in the trilogy, essentially a political thriller and court-room drama. But very good. Still, I think my favorite is the first film. And we played Rift. I played Indus, my Eth warrior (reaver and beastmaster), and she reached Level 19. I'm not sure why I'm running three characters simultaneously, but I am learning how different races and classes work. We read more of Markus Zusak's The Book Thief, and I read another article from the new JVP: "A new pachypleurosaur (Reptilia; Sauropterygia) from the lower Middle Triassic of southwestern China and the phylogenetic relationships of Chinese pachypleurosaurs." Then...I didn't sleep. Well, not until sometime after five ayem.

And now, more photos by kylecassidy from the shoot Saturday before last, at the Harvard Museum of Natural History (including very, very rare shots of me and Kathryn together; my favorite is the last):

It's really, really nice. I assume it'll be the authors' photograph for The Tale of the Ravens?

I'm not sure we'll it'll have one, but that would be a good one, if it did. It's really more a folio, than a book.

sometimes I get a lot of work done because of i

It destroys my productivity.

The pictures are beautiful! I think there is no creepier setting than a museum of natural history, with all those dead creatures and glass eyes. Brrrrr!

See...to me it's not creepy at all. It's holy. It's a safe and comfortable space.

Those photos are all fabulous. You and Spooky should appear in photos more often.

It's not that I worry over nothing. It's that unless I worried so fiercely, everything would go to crap.

I figured that out long ago. I was always a worrier, even as a child. My mom once told me that 98% of the things people worry about never happen. I eventually figured out that she was trying to get me to relax a little, but my initial thought was that if I worried about as much as possible, I'll only have to deal with about 2% of it all.

Tell her that. I keep telling her that.

I figured that out long ago.

Worrying takes a toll, but it gets results.

I can't help but see Insomnia as male. Maybe there's an entire cabal.

Yes, good photos. I like the one of you in shirtsleeves. You and Spooky make a handsome couple.

Which version of Das Boot have you rented - the series, or the film? It's been a good fifteen years since I watched either.

I finished The Book Thief yesterday. Thank you for the recommendation - it's a great novel. Deceptively gentle, at least at first. You'll love the final line.

That's a bloody hard Question to answer, because I keep seeing you as the barker. I blame the hat.

I'm not sure why I'm running three characters simultaneously, but I am learning how different races and classes work.

I'm still trying to figure out the classes too. I got Celinn (the rogue) to 19 this morning and feel like I've basically got a grip on her (she solos pretty decently, but is really reliant on her stealth). I think I've screwed up my warrior slightly until I can respec his souls, but I don't think I'll be hurting too badly just yet. I'll be trying to jump on tonight to catch Selwyn for some discussion of the guild. Would you two consider trying out Iron Tomb?

The first picture makes me think of some well-meaning, but less-than-patient spirit what inhabits the museum and scolds little children and little adults when they make disparaging comments about the exhibits. Its possible that repeat offenders are reduced and packaged into specimen jars that the museum staff accepts with a mixture of wonder and slight embarassment.

The second picture is pure pook-tastic.

Pic #7: We both know what you did, but damned if we can find any fucking evidence.

Seriously, Ms. K - your smile makes it perfectly clear why that Spooky needs to keep you on a short leash. You are definitely up to no good. *grin*

Would you two consider trying out Iron Tomb?

We can try. Just keep in mind, we both go slow through quests and dungeons, and we're not power levelers. We at least need to get Celinn in the Guild. Are you other characters in another guild? Multiple guilds confuse me.

I'm working on the Guild's backstory. Basically, I think Selwyn has been drawn into cahoots with the Drowning Man and his secret machinations. he seeks to form a cabal for matters relating to the Abyssal invaders, etc. Oh, and Selwyn's mute, having lost her tongue during the jump backwards in time (though one of Spooky's characters interprets her sign language).

I'll be trying to jump on tonight to catch Selwyn for some discussion of the guild.

I might be around.

Works for me.

pook-tastic.

Define, please.

I think the next to last picture is the best. You have an awesome smile in it. Both of the picture where you are shilouetted are very nice too. Unfortunately the probably aren't very usable for publicity shots since they don't show your face.

I have to say that 5th from the bottom screams "Aunt Beast" to me. I absolutely adore that shot. Mr. Cassidy is amazing. The one with you and Spooky that you like is holding up its hand to be included in the Ravens project.

May Mr. Insomnia leave you the fuck alone.
