Damn.

I've been avoiding all things Gaga, suspecting I'd be hooked, sooner or later. Now I've seen the video for "Bad Romance," and, well, it's happened. There's such an weird and wonderful mix of influences here (The Eurythmics, Bowie, Nomi, Nina Hagan, Queen, Lene Lovich, Grace Jones, and, well, it just goes on and on). Wow.

The Lady can sing.

Here's a recent lipsynch by Gaga at the Video Music Awards. What I love is that she re-recorded the song, created a fascinating performance (wheelchair, levitation, blood, piano solo) but didn't bother to lipsynch well at all:

And here's the audio (with pics) of the painfully pitiful duet (if one can call it that) with Manson:

And then we need chasers:
Brian Molko does Bowie's "Five Years"

VNV Nation remixes AFI's "Miss Murder":

God Module "Spooky" (fan vid but with neat pics), plus is says, "I like it Spooky," over and over.

OK so I am fighting for my place on the first ship to Planet Gaga...
And I am in love with Brian Molko.

Can I like both?
Is that OK?

You are allowed and encouraged to do as you wish. I, personally, will withhold putting Gaga at Brian's level until ten years from now. Then again, if you look at Brian's extracurricular work with Trash Palace, Timo Mass and Alpinestars--he might even have a seat on that Planet Gaga ship.

I'm not at all averse to lipsynching, believe it is the industry standard for award shows other than the Grammys where it is optional and think that the breathing is often edited in to complete the illusion...but I might be wrong on all three counts.
