Do what now?

So...I just saw this year's Oscar nominations. Generally, and compared to many friends and people on my LJ friends list, I have to say I am somewhat kindly disposed to the Academy Awards. This year, however, I think it's safe to say they have truly screwed the pooch. I won't get into specifics. But...damn.

If they didn't nominate Låt den rätte komma in (or Un conte de Noël) for Foreign Language Film or The Fall for Cinematography, then there is fail spilled all over the place.

Let the Right One In wasn't submitted by Sweden for consideration because it wasn't eligible this year. It was released in Sweden after the deadline for foreign films.

Can I still be aggrieved over Un conte de Noël?

Maybe it's just me... I'm not the greatest on keeping up with movies and the like... but I'm a little baffled, as most of the movies that they have nominated from... I don't even think I heard of. o.O

I haven't seen Slumdog Millionare yet, but it's by Danny Boyle, so I'm sure it's excellent. The Curious Case of Benjamin Button is a wonderful movie, though I think Cate Blanchett deserves a nod for best actress at least as much as Brad Pitt does for best actor.

Heath Ledger's nomination for Best Supporting Actor almost goes without saying. I hope he wins it, but I'm surprised that's the ONLY nomination Dark Knight got.

I do wish Let the Right One In had been released in time for consideration, since it's definitely deserving, and I don't want it to fall to the wayside because its buzz doesn't carry it until the next vote.

I think Wall-E deserved a nomination for Best Picture, but I'm not sure it would win in that category, while it's a foregone conclusion in the Best Animated category.

Other than that, I'm mostly bleh on the nominations this year.

At first I didn't think I'd like Poor Things, but ended up really loving it. I agree, though, I wish the ending had been somewhat different. I was hoping that they'd put Dr. Baxter's brain into…

I recently re-read The Red Tree, and this post got me thinking about parts of it. A writer appears to have lost her ability to write, to create fiction, and thus is left susceptible to "the madness,…

All I can find out about Susan Rand is a link in a blog from 2012 to 404 page not found dead website so I assume she isn't terribly relevant

I feel like I've been screaming into the void for over a decade now on here. For some reason, I still like this corner dive bar and am not ready to put the chairs up and turn the lights off yet.…
