this article on an anigmatic new taxon from the Ediacaran, reporting the discovery of the eight-armed organism Eoandromeda octobrachiata from China and Australia. The article isn't very well written, but it's a gorgeous little beastie. You can also read the abstract from the actual paper in Geology (in which the creature was described) here.

By the way, I never would have pegged you as being a Goon Squad fan. You were, what, five when that song came out?
I was actually referencing the Veruca Salt album of the same name, released in 1997 (when I was 32).

(Besides, for some reason, I thought you were considerably younger than I am. I don't know why.)
I'm just more immature...
Oh. OH. I didn't know that Veruca Salt was still together, or at least was at the time. I thought you were referring to this little piece from 1984. After all, it's always about the cephalopods.
Wow. I have absolutely no memory of this band, or this horrid song, or this video. Hate the music, and the sheer 80s-ness of the video is exceedingly painful to behold...and yet, it's quite adorable. Even some tentacle groping going on there at the very end. Neat.
that looked more like a modern party favor than a living animal
adorable

I suspect in life it looked a great deal more like a Jello mold.
