Addendum: Harpya

One of the finest blogs of which I am aware is acephale, which daily brings me such wonders as Raoul Servais' 1979 short, Harpya, which you may watch in its entirety below. Perfect for readers of Sirenia Digest, I'd think (both the blog and the film):

Oh, and here's the link again to the "Cephaloflap" and "Doodleflap" auctions. My thanks to those who have bid thus far. I guess you guys know great box-flap art when you see it!

That is wonderful. It's like a symbolist painting come to life.

Hmmm. That wasn't quite as cool as it could've been. But, then again, I am a bit jaded due to my slavish devotion to Svankmayer and The Brothers Quay.

The musical score was perfect, though. There is a certain unique sound--almost dada-esque--to all of the music found in short surrealist films across the decades. I think if I ever make a film of that sort, I'm using only Nurse With Wound tracks as the score, in order to both "buck" the trend and adhere to it at the same time! :)

BTW, that damned harpy reminded me way too much of Anna-Varney-whatever from Sopor Aeturnus. I really like SA's music (I've often considered it "Diamanda Galas Lite"), but that...thing that fronts/is the group just makes me positively sick with terror. Seriously. S/he has to be a nightgaunt stripped of its wings....
