There’s no one quite like [Kiernan] in folding and unfolding characters in a sort of origami fashion so that they surprise you again and again, but always logically no matter how bizarrely; there are very few who can transport you via deft, strange spells from scene to scene as smoothly and gracefully, sliding open secret panels, turning reliable-seeming staircases into carnival slides, and dropping you suddenly through trap doors.

Also, yesterday's mail brought my contributor's copies of Fantasy Magazine #2, which reprints "Madonna Littoralis" (from Sirenia Digest #1).
Not such a great writing day yesterday. I worked twice as hard for half as much. Only 688 words on "The Cryomancer's Daughter." I'd hoped to finish it today, but now that may not happen. I think the autobiographical elements I spoke of yesterday may, in part, be slowing me down on this one.

I've not had much time lately for keeping up with science news, but here's a neat thing I came across yesterday: Mystery Object Found in Supernova's Heart. On an only somewhat related note, it has occurred to me that the Immaculate Order of the Falling Sky can't continue to refer to that time after the mass extinction of humanity via the Great Space Rock as the Neozoic, as that term has been employed previously as a (now antiquated) term for all time since the end of the Palaeozoic Era (Mesozoic + Cenozoic). I'm currently considering Postandrozoic (literally, "life after man") as its replacement.
That's about it for me this morning. Spooky still has a few auctions going, though they end today, so you may want to have a look. We'll be beginning the third round sometime this weekend. My thanks to everyone who's taken part in this past week or two.
Here are a couple of photos to wrap things up (behind the cut):
Relocated out of doors shortly after this photo was taken, thus thwarting the ladybug's plan to take over the world with a bottle of mouthwash.
And this is that vile artefact which awaits me...the Daughter of Hounds CEM.
