Listens: Nina Simone, "Feeling Good"

The hole in the bottom of the sea.

Sunny. The high was 86˚F, with a heat index of 89˚F. It is now 84˚F.

Today managed to be worse even than yesterday.

Nothing was written, except this.

The afternoon's movie was Rian Johnson's Star Wars: The Last Jedi (2017). You know, there was a time I though Rian Johnson could do no wrong, and that he was a very, very promising director. But then he made Knives Out, such a lousy film I almost left partway through. But, that said, The Last Jedi is actually one of the better Star Wars films – but only if you chop out that whole interminable and inexplicable digression to Canto Bight...and the PETA advert rescuing the...whatever those were. There were far, far more artful and economical ways of introducing DJ to the story, and a smarter director would have looked for one of them. Benecio Del Toro is, by the way, one of the film's high points. Also, I still have no idea why J.J. Abrams undid the Finn/Rose relationship, buried Rose in a bit part, and had Finn hook up with...whoever she was.

Oh, and Foundation. I was very impressed with the second episode. If nothing else, it was beautiful. And then the second episode was very boring, and then the third episode made the second look exciting. Lee Pace is great, but he can't carry the mess this quickly turns into. Also, I think the creators are dumping certain political commentary into the story that Asimov did not precisely have in mind. So, big disappointment.

I am living one day, repeated over and over and over, forever.

Please have a look at the current eBay auctions. Thanks.
