One of the strangest Christmas days of my life, at 55. The weather didn't help. Though it was not as warm as yesterday, we still reached 69˚F. Currently, it's 54˚F.

Much of the day was spent at my late Aunt Joanne's house in Leeds, helping my mom and my Aunt Ramey sort through some of her belongings. I came away with a box of books and a few other things that had been either hers or my Grandmother Ramey's, including artwork by them both. It was a sad thing to do on any day.

Kathryn and I exchanged present this morning, before Leeds. She gave me the really marvelous new Peaky Blinders three-disc LP and a hardback copy of The Lady from the Black Lagoon: Hollywood Monsters and the Lost Legacy of Milicent Patrick. Also, my thanks to the readers who sent me presents. You know who you are, and you should know my gratitude. But my favorite gift of this Christmas might have come from my mom, who made me a Stegosaurus quilt square for my office wall.

There was a beautiful, big anole on my mother's front porch when we got there, basking in the unseasonably warm day. And on the way there, we saw what looked like a plover at the side of the road, a long way from the sea.

Tonight, we watched Rian Johnson's The Last Jedi (2017) for the first time since we saw it in the theater, because tomorrow morning we're going to see J.J. Abrams' The Rise of Skywalker.

I think I'm gonna have some pecan pie and go to bed.
