"So, as you push off from the shore..."

Cold and sunny. Currently, it's 32˚F in Providence.*

I didn't write yesterday. I worked on the ToC (Table of Contents) for The Dinosaur Tourist. And discovered that a surprising percentage of the stories I've written since 2013 have words like ballad, elegy, and idyll in their titles. I also sent Christopher Geisseler a short description he can post describing the talk I'm giving at the Hay at 4:30 p.m. on December 5th.

Last night, after leftover chili, it was all drag queens and jigsaw puzzles. I'm working on some cat-and-flowers puzzle my Mom sent me, and we're working our way through Season 6 of RuPaul's Drag Race again, having finished with seasons 5,7, and 8. I'm not sure we'll bother rewatching Season 9, as Sasha Velour was really the only thing that made it worthwhile.

Aunt Beast

4:53 p.m. (day before yesterday)

* At 12:45 p.m., the temperature has risen to 35˚F, but now we have a windchill that makes it feel like 29˚F.

That cat stare looks vaguely threatening.

I shall have more to say later (I love you! I met you a couple of years ago at the KGB Bar in NYC and was kind of a crazy fan! I teach your writing in my classes (I teach English at BMCC)! I wrote about you for my Ph.D. dissertation! I obviously love exclamation points!).

In any case, I *adore* the cat picture. I am guessing about 30 seconds after the photo was taken, the kitten jumped on your glasses and laptop? I’ve got three kittens of my own: Annabel Lee (a kind of elderly black cat), Ligeia (a tuxedo cat that I rescued from being run over by a car outside my apartment), and Berenice (a VERY small black Maine Coon kitten). Annabel Lee loves to sleep on my pillow, to the extent that I find myself sleeping on a tiny corner of the pillow because she has taken it over. Berenice loves to attack ALL the papers I bring home from work. Cats, huh?

I am trying to find time to visit the John Hay Library before the exhibit on you and Lovecraft closes. I apologize profusely if this is out of line or intrusive, but could I perhaps buy you and your partner lunch/dinner when I come to Providence? I’m not quite sure when I’ll be there, but I am guessing probably on December 13 or 14. Again, I am VERY sorry if this is out of line. I’ll just be happy to see your and Lovecraft’s papers.
