Once more, waking into anger and fear. At least the sky is not so blue. Currently, it's 73˚F and partly cloudy. We made it into the mid eighties yesterday. The warm weather helps a little.

I have not left the House since October 1st.

I spent the whole day trying to patch together a Silk ms. from five hundred or so OCR scans. I made it through the remaining eight chapters, but there's still a ton of work to be done. And already I hate this novel again.

I've been a fan of your work since near the beginning of your career. I am sure it's quite common for any artist to look back at their old work and not like it, but I just wanted to say that I really liked Silk when it first came out. Having re-read it this past spring, I still think it stands up as a great novel. It's not your best book in my opinion (that would be the Drowning Girl), but its a far better novel than 95 percent of the crap that passes for popular fiction in the last 20 or so years.

I might not have picked up Threshold, which I also enjoyed very much, had I not read Silk first and really liked it. To a lot of your longtime fans, its the book that first put you on their radar, along with your work on the Dreaming, I would imagine.

Thank you. But with all due respect, no. Silk is, at best, promising juvenilia, over-written, sentimental, and given to romanticizing.
