Windsday and Thunderday

After two leaden days, the wind arrived last night, the sort of wind that sweeps over Providence and rattles the house. And then, about three a.m., maybe a little later, an enormous thunderstorm arrived. We don't get a lot of those. I was having trouble sleeping, so I was awake. This is the same storm front that wreaked havoc in the South a couple of days back. Today, only a few clouds remain. The sun is back. It's currently 54˚F.

I spent an hour or so yesterday reading through the volume of my personal, pen-and-paper journal that covers the second half of 2001.

We finished Season One of Better Call Saul. In some ways, it's actually a better show than was Breaking Bad.

There was lightning here. I watched it while the blinds banged in the wind.

How so? I haven't seen either.

Yeah. I think the writers had a clearer idea of what they wanted to do with Better Call Saul from the beginning. The first season of Breaking Bad felt a bit like it was part Coen Brothers homage, part social commentary satire with things like Hank treating drug users like dirt while ironically brewing his own beer. I felt like the show evolved into more of a spaghetti western, though I guess the character Tuco was always named after Eli Wallach's character in The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly. Despite Better Call Saul starring a comedian, there are no characters, or moments for characters, so broadly comical that they have an unrealistic lack of self-awareness compared to other people or even to themselves under other circumstances.

"Saul" is such an awesome show. Glad you are enjoying it---also glad you missed getting the brunt of that storm!
