Leonard Nimoy (1931-2015)

By now, most of you will have heard that Leonard Nimoy died today. Kathryn and I were out for a drive, and we came home to the news. I sat here crying, not wanting to cry. Crying didn't seem right. Right up until the end of his life, Nimoy was a vibrant, amazingly creative, talented man doing the work he loved. I cried, anyway.

When I was a little kid, living in Jacksonville, Florida, we watched the original series as the episodes were first aired. I was in kindergarten and first grade; it was the late sixties. And still those memories are very clear (clearer than what I had for breakfast, and make of that what you will). Spock has been with me all my life, and there was the "Great Paris" from Mission: Impossible, and Dr. David Kibner in the 1978 remake of Invasion of the Body Snatchers, and, most recently, William Bell in Fringe. And on and on and on. Wacky shit like "The Ballad of Bilbo Baggins" and his very recent appearance in Bruno Mars' video for "The Lazy Song" (see below).

How can there be a world without Leonard Nimoy? And yet, there is.

A life is like a garden. Perfect moments can be had, but not preserved, except in memory. LLAP ~ Nimoy's final tweet.

Spooky took this photo for me, because it's the best tribute I can offer:

Yeah.
