This news is coming in a little late, but I think I've only just had time and presence of mind to reflect on it today. Polish painter of the bizarre and macabre Zdzislaw Beksinski was murdered last week, stabbed to death. The story is here. The news was passed along to me by Richard Kirk, otherwise, I likely wouldn't know.

(Zdzislaw Beksinski, 1929-2005)

De-lurking to say, thanks for posting this, Caitlin. Beksinski is a sort of special artist to me. I went to Poland years ago (1992) as a student, and my husband found a book of Beksinski's work. We were mesmerized, and have remained so. I still pull down that book from time to time and get lost in those images. They are so weird, dark, humorous and joyful, sometimes all at the same time. We hope one day to return to Poland and see his works "in the flesh." He was an incredible artist. I wonder what the story is behind his violent death?

Incidentally, that's my favorite Beksinski painting. I'm currently looking for a poster of it.

Incidentally, that's my favorite Beksinski painting.

It's one of my two faves of his work.

it's depressing when don't hear about someone until they die. especially when you find out that you really like their work.
