On the floating, shapeless oceans,
I did all my best to smile,
'Til your singing eyes and fingers,
Drew me loving into your eyes.
And you sang "Sail to me, sail to me;
Let me enfold you."
Here I am, here I am waiting to hold you.
Did I dream you dreamed about me?
Were you here when I was full sail?
Now my foolish boat is leaning, broken love lost on your rocks.
For you sang, "Touch me not, touch me not, come back tomorrow."
Oh my heart, oh my heart shies from the sorrow.
I'm as puzzled as a newborn child.
I'm as riddled as the tide.
Should I stand amid the breakers?
Or shall I lie with death my bride?
Hear me sing: "Swim to me, swim to me, let me enfold you."
"Here I am. Here I am, waiting to hold you."
"Song to the Siren," (as covered by This Mortal Coil, 1984)
Long afloat on shipless oceans,
I did all my best to smile
'Til your singing eyes and fingers
Drew me loving to your isle.
And you sang,
"Sail to me.
Sail to me.
Let me enfold you.
Here I am.
Here I am.
Waiting to hold you."
Did I dream you dreamed about me?
Were you hare when I was fox?
Now my foolish boat is leaning,
Broken lovelorn on your rock.
For you sing, "Touch me not, touch me not, come back tomorrow:
O my heart, O my heart shies from the sorrow"
I am puzzled as the newborn child
I am troubled at the tide.
Should I stand amid the breakers?
Should I lie with Death my bride?
Hear me sing.
Swim to me.
Swim to me.
Let me enfold you.
Here I am.
Here I am.
Waiting to hold you.

That song's been in my head, too, the past few days. It hurts so much to even listen to it, it's so close to some mortal edge. It's one of those songs that is both sweet and sad and eerie all at the same time. I can never tell if it makes me feel more mournful or more afraid.
It's a beautiful song either way, but I think I like the changes they made to Larry Beckett's lyrics.

I am not sure if those two bands are your cup of tea, but they have very strong resemblances to Jesus And Mary Chain, Lush, Cocteau Twins, and other bands I heart heart.
Thank you for posting your entry. Now to hunt those songs down in my iTunes...

Shouldn't be too hard, especially since This Mortal Coil's cover appeared on the soundtrack to Lynch's Lost Highway.
I'm *pretty* sure the song never appeared on the soundtrack album, though it was used in the movie.

Indeed, this sountrack listing does not have it.

Indeed, this soundtrack listing does not have it.
Regardless, it was used during what I consider to be the film's most powerful and enlightening scene.
